Q&A WITH Michael Farrell

1. What Inspired you to enrol at Jackie Cameron School of Food & Wine? 

When looked at different culinary schools I was impressed with the equipment and the opportunities that would come studying at Jackie Cameron School of Food & Wine.

2. What are you hoping to achieve here?

I am hoping to gain a better understanding of food - and experience the correct training and practice to help get a good job in the future.

3. Explain what you are prepared to give of yourself.

I am willing to give my everything to learn - and grow into to a professional chef. 

4. What is your long-term goal?

 To own my own restaurant and to train others for the industry.

5. In how many years do you hope to achieve this? 

With in the next two decades – hopefully.

6. Are you aware that the pressure you'll be placed under during the course will help you to achieve your goal? Elaborate on your ability to cope with pressure.

I tend to go into pressurised situations in a positive manner because if you succumb to the pressure it can make the task unbearable.

7. Do you shy away from hard work? Elaborate on your answer. 

Sometimes - but only if it something that I do not want to do.

8. Are you willing to perform all tasks assigned to you? Give a reason for your answer.

Yes, I am because it will help me to learn valuable lessons and I’ll gain a better understanding. 

9. Are you aware that the hospitality industry requires you to work on weekends and public holidays while guests ‘play’? Comment on this.

I do understand that this industry requires a lot of hard work, and some sacrifices are needed to gain experience. 

10. Who is your favourite international foodie?

Uncle Roger 

11. If food had a personality what dish would be most like you - and why?

A lasagne because there are lots of layers and each layer means something else.

12. Where were you born and raised?

Nur-Sultan in Kazakhstan and raised in Manila in the Philippines.

13. Apart from food, what hobbies do you enjoy?

Gym and cycling.

14. What dish do you find least inspiring? Explain your reason. 

Poutine because to me it is a lot of leftovers added to fries.

15. Name four celebrities you'd like to have at your dinner table. Explain why. 

Uncle Roger - because he would add humour.

Paris Hilton - my celebrity crush.

Margot Robbie - my favourite actress.

Gordon Ramsay - because he would give me some good ideas.
