Introducing Rai-Teree Das - Class of 2015
What inspired you to enroll at Jackie Cameron School of Food & Wine?
For me, food is a passion as well as a lifestyle. Chef Jackie Cameron is a fantastic mentor for me as she is a female chef in this industry and surely will equip me for what I would like to achieve in the future and as an aspiring chef.
What are you hoping to achieve there?
I am hoping to become successful in perfecting everything that I am taught during these 18 months. I am striving for nothing less than the best.
What do you hope to give of yourself?
Everything… I intend on giving it 100% of my time, dedication, passion and focus.
What is your long-term goal?
My long term goal is to become one of the best chefs in South Africa. The same way female chefs have inspired me, I would love to inspire others.
In how many years do you hope to achieve this?
In the next eight to ten years.
Who is your favourite international ‘foodie’?
I love Inna Garten (Barefoot Contessa).
If food had a personality, what dish would be most like you – and why?
Ginger - I look tough, and first impressions of me could be that I take life too seriously and that there is not too much to my personality; but once the surface is peeled depth is revealed. Although I am complex person, I can be very sweet and aromatic in personality.
Where were you born and raised?
I was born and raised in Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal.
Apart from food what hobbies do you enjoy?
I love sleeping! I have probably chosen the wrong career path as I understand I will be deprived of it in this industry.
What dish do find least inspiring – and why?
There isn't any dish I find least inspiring. I believe everything has an inspiration behind it especially those that were made with love and passion.
