Q&A WITH Charlotte Davis

1. What inspired you to enrol at Jackie Cameron School of Food & Wine?

I wanted to enrol because I feel a genuine connection to food, and I knew that if I enrolled at Jackie Cameron School of Food & Wine, I would be able to gain the experience I need for my culinary future.

2. What are you hoping to achieve here?

I want to achieve a higher level of baking and culinary arts knowledge.

3. Explain what you are prepared to give of yourself?

I am prepared to give 200% of my time and effort in all aspects.

4. What is your long-term goal?

To, one day, own a well-known and successful restaurant

5. In how many years do you hope to achieve this?

I hope to achieve this in 7-10 years.

6. Are you aware that the pressure you’ll be placed under during the course will help you achieve your goal? Elaborate on your ability to cope with pressure.

Yes, I am aware that throughout this course I will be placed under pressure and that this will help me achieve my goal. Typically, I do not do well under pressure, but I am hoping I will grow to accept that pressure is a part of this career path and will learn to enjoy it.

7. Do you shy away from hard work? Elaborate on your answer.

No, I do not shy away from hard work. I love to keep myself busy and tend to find work to do.

8. Are you willing to perform all tasks assigned to you? Elaborate your answer.

Yes, I am. I am here to learn by doing all tasks given to me to my utmost ability.

9. Are you aware that the hospitality industry requires you to work on weekends and public holidays while guests ‘play’? Comment on this.

Yes, I am aware of this, and in my mind I would be happy helping people enjoy their off days.

10. Who is your favourite international ‘foodie’?

Gordon Ramsay.

11. If food had a personality, what dish would be most like you? Explain.

Pork dumplings, because they are flavourful - and difficult to not love.

12. Where were you born and raised?

I was born in Zimbabwe, and I was raised in Tanzania.

13. Apart from food what hobbies do you enjoy?

I enjoy horse riding, equine vaulting, art, reading (sometimes) and working out in the gym.

14. What dish do you find least inspiring? Explain.

I find lasagna the least inspiring dish because I find it very boring and repetitive to make - and most of the time it can be very bland.

15. Name four celebrities that you’d like to have at your dinner table. Explain why.

I would like to have Andrew Garfield (he is my celebrity crush) and Gordon Ramsay (because he would be able to critique my food) and Guy Fieri (because he is funny) and Johnny Depp (because he is hot and funny, and I know he’ll be nice to me - and about my food)
